Stone Mountain was chartered in 1839, making it the second oldest city in DeKalb County. It is located next to the South’s premier State Park, Stone Mountain Park, which is home to the largest bas relief sculpture in the world.  The mountain is also the largest exposed mass of granite in the world.  It has four City Parks as well, making it one of metropolitan Atlanta’s “greenest” cities. The City of Stone Mountain was recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association as a “Certified City of Ethics” at the annual convention on June 27, 2006.
